I finally got it working.

I created a copy of the init script /etc/init.d/pingctl.

I named it pingctl2.

I changed it's configuration details to match my 2nd echolot pinger
instance. And then I issued an update-rc.d command.

However, insserv threw a warning:

_____

root at bergman:/etc/init.d# update-rc.d pingctl2 defaults

update-rc.d: using dependency based boot sequencing
insserv: warning: current stop runlevel(s) (empty) of script
`pingctl2' overrides LSB defaults (0 1 6).

_____

Success! Both echolots instances now start up at boot time.

But should I be concerned by that warning message?
