This is to announce the permanent closure of Bergman4k Remailer
and Fourohninesix Pinger.

My reasons for closing are more personal than technical. I began
Bergman with three goals: to prove to myself that I could do it;
to contribute something to the privacy community at a time of
ever-increasing surveillance by states and corporations; to
become a part of a community of like-minded people and perhaps
make some new friends along the way.

I can confirm that I accomplished the first two goals. The third
one? Not so much. I fear I made more enemies than friends. But
in any case it's come to an end.

A sincere thank you to Zax for encouraging me and helping me
when I first set up the Bergman remailer. And a big thanks to
Frell Admin who advised me on the dark mysteries and inner
workings of the Echolot pinger.

Remailers have been around for a long time and a suspect they
will continue to be around as long as individuals want to
exercise their right to free speech. "Use it or lose it", as
they say.
